Our Pledge: Graduate Debt-Free
UChicago Promise is the University of Chicago’s multipronged initiative designed to help students and families throughout the City of Chicago gain admission to, pay for, and thrive in college. With UChicago Promise, the University of Chicago offers resources and special scholarships to help guide students in the City of Chicago to selective four-year institutions.
Additionally, students admitted to the University of Chicago for undergraduate studies will have their full demonstrated financial need met without loans. These student loans will be replaced by grants, which do not have to be repaid.
Chicago residents who attend high school in Chicago will also have the $75 application fee automatically waived when applying to the University of Chicago.

Admissions Academy was designed to support educators through professional development and other resources, and also provides resources and information to guide students and families through college admissions and financial aid processes.
University of Chicago students who are interested in supporting the Admissions Academy can apply to become a Jeff Metcalf UChicago Promise intern. UChicago Promise interns assist Admissions Office staff members in planning Admissions Academy events and are assigned to a local high school guidance counseling office to assist with preparing high school students for the college application process.

Mentoring and Academic Preparation
The University of Chicago offers a number of programs for students that provide mentoring and academic preparation for college. UChicago Promise builds on a strong foundation of programs and initiatives sponsored by the University that help Chicago high school and grade school students get the best chance at an excellent education. The University of Chicago welcomes K-12 Chicago students through a number of visit programs, including the Admissions Office’s Early Achiever Program and our Group Tour Program.
